Auckland Airport fog restrictions back

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 24/05/2017

Thick fog blanketing Auckland that caused delays and cancellations at the city's airport finally lifted around noon on Thursday but then were enforced again soon after.

Auckland Airport put fog restrictions in place at about 2.40am on Thursday and said 42 domestic flights had to be cancelled by midday, with 77 others delayed.

An intentional flight from Brisbane Airport also had to be diverted to Wellington.

Restrictions were lifted at about noon but were then put in place again just 15 minutes later.

The fog also prompted warnings from the NZTA as drivers were left with limited vision on the city's motorways during their morning commutes.
