Footage of a "nasty" carjacking of an Auckland woman has been viewed thousands of times but police are still searching for the two women responsible.

The woman in her 60s fell to the ground and was kicked and struck in the head with an object in the Lagoon Stadium car park at Panmure on Wednesday.

She suffered serious head and facial injuries but is recovering, police said.

Footage of the attack has been viewed thousands of times according to Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Newman.

"We can say though that all information is being assessed and our priority is gathering and assessing evidence that will lead us to identify and locate the people responsible for this nasty attack," he said.

It shows a suspected stolen red Honda Fit drive slowly around the Panmure car park where the woman was sitting in the passenger seat of her grey Toyota Corolla.

Two women got out of the red car and walk toward the victim's car, while a third person climbed into the driver's seat of their vehicle.

The victim was pulled from her seat and there is an altercation before the victim tries to run and is followed by one of the woman, who had something in her hand.

After the assault the two women got into the victim's car, but one got out to shove the victim, who was lying behind the car, out of the way.

The victim got up and ran for help as the two cars sped away.

Her Toyota Corolla was found abandoned just after 5pm in Mangere but the Honda Fit has not yet been located.
