Auckland's Laneway Festival gets new home

Auckland's Laneway music festival has announced it's moving to a new home next year.

The summer music event recently outgrew its waterfront Silo Park digs and organisers on Thursday announced it will be moving to the CBD's Albert Park in 2017.

Co-promoter Mark Kneebone says the move will allow for more space, four stages, a wider range of food and bars - plus would swap Silo Park's concrete setting for grass and a bit of shade.

"The new site is 70 per cent bigger, but despite the increase and for comfort's sake we are keeping the crowd capacity (12,000) the same," he said.

"We've been working with Auckland Council and the mayor's office for the past 12 months to make sure we have the best possible inner-city location and we are all relieved and excited it has come together."

The move ends five years at Silo Park.

The 2017 St Jerome's Laneway Festival will take place on January 30 and the first line-up is set to be announced next week.
