State of Origin's pre-match entertainment will feature three Australian artists with alternative rock band Birds of Tokyo named as the premier act.

Lismore-grown rock band Grinspoon will headline the only Sydney match at ANZ stadium in June while former Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning will hit the stage ahead of the final game at Suncorp Stadium in July.

NRL chief commercial officer Andrew Abdo said it was a great opportunity for rugby league fans to check out some of the big names in Australian music.

"It will be great to see some exceptional Australian talent also performing at all three games this year," he said in a statement on Friday.
