NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 15/07/2016

An Australian man who tried to bring two neck pillows stuffed with meth into New Zealand has been jailed for nearly seven years.

Yoram Kalev had pleaded guilty to importation and possessing for supply an A-class drug after he was caught with 1.46kg of methamphetamine at Wellington International Airport in January.

Kalev, who had just been in Hong Kong, raised the suspicions of customs officers at the airport when they noticed the neck pillow he had used on the plane was unusually heavy.

Officers X-rayed the cushion, and another in his luggage, to find they were filled with plastic bags of the drug - estimated to have a total street value of nearly $1.5 million.
