Babe a winner at Te Rapa

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 13/08/2016

Babe has shown she was worth the wait after claiming a debut victory at Te Rapa.

The three-year-old filly held off late challenges from Clairetheway, Fortaleza and Cha Siu Bao to win the Skycity Hamilton Waikato Cup 10 December 1200 on Saturday.

The O'Reilly filly's first appearance had been delayed by illness after she picked up a virus in May following a trial success at Cambridge.

But she showed no ill effects from her lay-off on Saturday. I didn't give her a trial or a jump-out leading up to this so I wasn't really sure what to expect," said trainer Graham Richardson.

"But she is a really nice type of filly."

She's going to keep on improving so we will be looking at the Gold Trail Stakes at Hastings.
