Top-ranked American Jack Sock, beaten finalist in 2016, will return for another crack at the ASB Classic in January.

The world No.23, the highest ranked American on the ATP Tour, joins a field which already includes defending champion Roberto Bautista Agut, four-time champion David Ferrer of Spain and John Isner of the United States.

Sock employed a power game to reach the final but came down with a virus and was forced to pull out early in the second set against Agut.

The 24-year-old has gone on to have a solid year. He has failed to add to his lone career tournament title but has posted wins over three top-10 players.

It will be his third appearance at the Auckland tournament.
