A second round of retesting of samples from the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games has uncovered another 45 athletes to test positive for forbidden substances.

Another 45 athletes have tested positive for forbidden substances in a second round of retests of samples from the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.

This brings to 98 the total number of positive retests from the Beijing and London Games.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) said 30 retests from 2008 returned positive, with 23 of the athletes being medallists, and the 30 athletes coming from four sports and eight countries.

The 15 positive tests from 2012 were from two sports and nine countries.

In total, 1243 samples had been retested so far. The IOC said it would conduct further retests from 2008 and 2012.

"The new reanalysis once again shows the commitment of the IOC in the fight against doping," IOC president Thomas Bach said.
