After a freefall in the rankings Eugenie Bouchard will benefit from a wildcard into the Sydney International.

Belinda Bencic and Eugenie Bouchard will benefit from wildcard entries into next week's Sydney International, with officials confirming their late selections on Monday.

Both young players have been struggling in recent months, with 2014 Wimbledon finalist Bouchard from Canada deep in a multi-season drop in form which has left the former top five player at 46th in the world rankings.

She began 2017 with a first-round loss in Brisbane on Sunday.

Swiss Bencic was hit by a run of injuries and played a patchy schedule last season, but will start 2017 alongside Roger Federer in a Hopman Cup tie in Perth against Britain on Monday.

The 19-year-old had to quit a 2016 Sydney semi-final against Monica Puig a year ago with injury.

The women's field at the ATP-WTA event is headed by world No.1 Angelique Kerber.
