Bespoke homes needed in remote quake zones

Bespoke temporary accommodation will need to be found for earthquake affected people in remote areas.

Animal welfare and work reasons mean some people are unable to leave their properties, but can't stay in their homes, Joel Brown from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment says.

MBIE is responsible for finding temporary accommodation in an emergency and launched their hotline taking calls for assistance on Tuesday.

"It's fair to say we are expecting there will be people register who are from remote rural communities and will need some sort of bespoke temporary housing solution," he said.

It's not clear what those bespoke options may include.

Calls for help are still in the single digits but are expected to increase.
