Ambassador Tim Groser hosted the January 17 party and guests included actor Jon Voight as well as business, military and political figures, One News reports.

"By all accounts that particular function was pretty successful," Mr English told reporters.

"We're investing in a relationship with the world's biggest economy with new leadership, we're trying to understand their policies and it's well worth it."
