Big games to herald new Breakers season

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 7/07/2016

The New Zealand Breakers will open their NBL campaign with two high-profile games in October.

The four-time champions will host Melbourne United on October 7 in the first round, with the visitors likely to field two well-performed Breakers of recent seasons - Cedric Jackson and Tai Wesley.

A week later, the Breakers are away to defending champions the Perth Wildcats in a repeat of last year's grand final series.

The league again features eight teams, with the Brisbane Bullets replacing the Townsville Crocodiles.

The Bullets host the league's opening game against Perth on October 6, kick-starting another 19-round season which features 28 games per team.

Of the Breakers' 14 home games, six are on Fridays, four on Thursdays, three on Sundays and one on Saturday.

The league has introduced 10 Monday night games through the season but the Breakers aren't involved in any.
