Bill to help solve UFB neighbour disputes

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 29/06/2016

Law changes are going to be made to make it easier for people with shared property or apartments to connect to ultra-fast broadband.

Communications Minister Amy Adams says "neighbour disputes" are causing unnecessary delays.

She's introduced a bill to parliament that simplifies the rules.

"Around 250,000, or 17 per cent, of UFB orders will need permission for access to property shared between neighbours, such as shared driveways or in apartment buildings," she said on Wednesday.

"This causes delays when there are problems with getting permission from neighbours."

Ms Adams says her Telecommunications (Property Access and Other Matters) Bill will also provide a disputes resolution scheme.
