Black Sticks hit by injury

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 10/06/2016

Injuries have forced two late changes to the Black Sticks women's team for the Champions Trophy in London.

Veteran Emily Gaddum has been ruled out with a back injury, while fellow defender Samantha Charlton is still recovering from a hairline hand fracture picked up during the International Hockey Open in Darwin.

Midfielder Kelsey Smith has been called into the team following an impressive performance in Darwin, while Aucklander Julia King also slots in as cover.

The Black Sticks open their Champions Trophy against the Netherlands on June 19 in their final major tournament before the Rio Olympics.

The team flew out of New Zealand on Saturday for warm-up games against Netherlands and Belgium before heading to London for the Champions Trophy.
