The Black Sticks men have had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Ireland at the Six Nations hockey tournament in Spain.

New Zealand, who at No.8 are four places above Ireland on the world rankings, fell behind when Shane O'Donoghue flicked home from a penalty corner.

They levelled just out from halftime through Shea McAleese's penalty stroke after Simon Child was felled in the circle.

The tournament in Valencia is the Black Sticks' last hit-out before the Rio Olympics in August.

They go into their final match against Argentina with a record of one win, one draw and two defeats.
