Black Sticks to play USA in Rangiora

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 27/02/2017

A fleeting taste of international sport is coming to Rangiora when New Zealand host the United States in two women's hockey Tests.

New Zealand hockey is promoting the series on March 25 and 26 as the first time a Kiwi team in any sport has played an international match in North Canterbury.

The newly opened Waimakariri Hockey Stadium will host the world No.6 US side and the fifth-ranked Black Sticks as both teams prepare for the four-nation Hawke's Bay Festival of Hockey starting a week later.

The new turf is the same water-based surface used at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

New Zealand are coming off a 3-1 series loss to Argentina in Buenos Aires earlier this month.
