Former Crusaders first five-eighth Tyler Bleyendaal is edging closer to be eligible for Ireland after extending his stay at Munster.

Bleyendaal will be at the club until 2019, by which time he could be playing Test rugby for his adopted country.

The former New Zealand age group playmaker wore Crusaders colours for three seasons before heading north. He qualifies for Ireland in early 2018.

Bleyendaal spent the first part of his Munster career battling a serious neck injury but has hit prime form recently in Limerick.

He may face competition for the No.10 jersey at Munster next season from versatile Irish back JJ Hanrahan, who will return to the club after two seasons with Northampton Tyler Bleyendaal © Dickson/INPHO/REX/Shutterstock Tyler Bleyendaal .
