Blood on floor at NZ protest

Seven people put their own blood on the ground at the entrance to the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) in Wellington in protest against the use of drones by the US military.

They placed pictures of drone strike victims on the floor, poured their own blood out and prayed for victims in the protest at lunchtime on Friday, says spokesman Adrian Leason.

"Our action today - giving our blood to the GCSB - is an act of propitiation to the powerful who take life," he says.

He says US drone strikes have killed thousands of civilians in Muslim-majority countries, and the GCSB, as a partner in the Five Eyes global surveillance network, is contributing signals intelligence to the US.

The group wants a review of New Zealand's contribution to the Five Eyes network.
