Blues to play Northland side in Whangarei

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 8/06/2016

The Blues will play a Northland Barbarians side to keep them match-fit during Super Rugby's June break.

The game in Whangarei on June 24 is eight days before they return to action against the Hurricanes in Wellington.

Blues coach Tana Umaga says the game is important for his side as they prepare for a big finish to their season.

They are 11th overall but last in the New Zealand conference after winning six of their first 12 games, sitting eight points outside a wildcard berth.

The match will serve as a trial for Northland selectors ahead of the NPC starting in August.
