Andrew Bogut could be playing his last game with the Golden State Warriors if the team is eliminated from the NBA Western Conference Finals by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr pointed to the Australian centre's foul troubles as one of the reasons why the Thunder hold a 3-1 series lead.

If the Warriors lose on Thursday (Friday 11am AEST) their season will be over and the Thunder will move on to the NBA finals.

Local media are speculating Warriors' management will look to replace the veteran Australian centre before next season.

"Is this series evidence the Warriors need to pull the trigger on Bogut anyway?" San Jose Mercury News columnist Marcus Thompson wrote.

"Bogut is still valuable, but this is the second consecutive postseason young, athletic bigs have been a problem.

"Last year it was Timofey Mozgov.

"This year it is Steven Adams."

The Thunder's Adams, a 22-year-old, 213cm tall New Zealander, has dominated the 213cm, 31-year-old Melbourne-born Bogut in the series.

Bogut has looked like the older, slower player, often caught reaching to foul a opponent before they score.

"He's got 13 fouls in 56 minutes," Kerr told reporters on Wednesday.

"He's almost fouling out of every game in 10-15 minutes.

"He's got to be smarter with his fouls.

"We need him out there."
