Police say bones found washed up on a beach near Timaru belong to a missing man.

Human leg bones and a foot in a boot found by a member of the public on a beach near Washdyke last month have been confirmed as belonging to Timaru man Darryl McNee, 44, police say.

Mr McNee went missing at the beginning of May, and his station wagon was found at the end of Connolly Rd in Seadown.

The death is being treated as unexplained.
