Bonus point change for Rugby Championship

The All Blacks will play under the same modified bonus point system introduced in Super Rugby this season when the Rugby Championship gets under way.

That means a team will get an extra competition point for scoring three tries more than the opposition.

Previously, any side that scored four tries in a match received a bonus point.

The allocation of four points for a win, two points for a draw and a bonus point for a loss by seven points or fewer remains the same.

Sanzaar chief executive Andy Marinos says the organisation's executive council conducted a review of how the change relating to tries scored had gone so far in Super Rugby.

The review concluded that it had had a significant impact in rewarding the more dominant teams, created a contest for the full 80 minutes and provided a reward for both attack and defence.

Marinos says introducing the system into the Rugby Championship will also mean consistency across Sanzaar tournaments.

Sanzaar has also confirmed that a Rugby Championship Test will be staged in London for the first time, with Argentina hosting Australia at Twickenham in the final round.
