Books made into films popular

Books made into films are popular if the Whitcoulls Top 100 books list is anything to go by.

They are determined by vote and the number of votes is up 17.5 per cent care of social media channels.

Two of the top three have been made into films. They are: Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, who claims the No.1 spot and the Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling at No.2. I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes is third.

Barry Crump's classic Kiwi book Wild Pork & Watercress is 20th some 30 years after it was first published but its popularity may be due to the film version - Taika Waititi's smash hit, Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

The other theme in the list is that New Zealand authors are popular and books for young adults are popular.

"The thing that never changes though is the recognition and enthusiasm for a truly great book and there are as many of these being published now as there ever have been," says book manager Joan Mackenzie.
