Licensed premises in Auckland are flouting the law by selling booze to minors.

Police say four out of eight on-licensed premises targeted in the controlled purchase operation on Saturday were caught selling alcohol to minors, including one as young as 15.

They are in Ellerslie, Panmure and Newmarket and will be prosecuted under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act.

"It's really disappointing and frustrating that we continue to have premises seemingly flout the law and their obligations," says Inspector Gary Davey.

A month ago five premises in west Auckland were caught selling alcohol to minors in a separate sting.
