NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 16/06/2016

Welterweight boxer Joshua Nyika has had his Olympic dream ended in a knock-out in the final qualifying event in Azerbaijan.

Nyika, from Hamilton, went down to German Abass Baraou in the second round of their opening-round fight in the 69kg division.

Four other New Zealanders are chasing a spot at Rio via the tournament in Baku, including Nyika's brother David in the heavyweight (91kg) class.

David Nyika, who won light-heavyweight gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, faces Togo's Kevin Kuadjovi in a first-round bout.

Light-heavyweight Tyson Sykes, light-welterweight Richard Hadlow and lightweight Chad Milnes are also in action at the tournament.
