NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 25/05/2016

The half-brother of Levin schoolboy Alex Fisher has pleaded guilty to his murder.

Eric Baden McIsaac, 26, admitted murdering the 10-year-old at Waitarere Beach last October when he appeared in the High Court at Palmerston North on Thursday.

Alex's body was found in sand dunes at Waitarere Beach following an extensive three-day search.

He was last seen alive with McIsaac at the Waitarere Four Square store on October 5.

His disappearance prompted a search with more than 100 people including police, search and rescue teams, and defence personnel involved in looking for the missing schoolboy.

His body was eventually spotted by a helicopter on October 8 near beachfront baches at Waitarere Beach, northwest of Levin.

It was found wrapped in a blanket.

He had suffered a head injury.

McIsaac, who also pleaded guilty to possession of a knife in a public place and the burglary of a Waitarere Beach property, was remanded in custody to be sentenced on July 8.
