Breakers put Taipans to the sword

The Breakers have put together a clinical performance to thrash the bottom of the table Cairns Taipans 104-81 at Spark Arena.

The home side came out fast in the first quarter scoring 30 points.

Corey Webster had the hot hand early in the ballgame scoring a game high 17 points in the first half.

The offensive onslaught continued in the second half as the Breakers extended their lead to 25 after three quarters.

Three-point shooting has been hurting the Breakers for most of the year, but that wasn’t the case this game, the Breakers shooting 11 from 27 from deep.

Webster lead all scorers with 25 points two rebounds and one assist.

Patrick Richard proved a shining light off the Breakers bench scoring 21 on eight of nine shooting, he grabbed a further three rebounds and three assists.

Breakers coach Kevin Braswell was happy with the team's performance

"It’s great for us after the last game we had defensively," he said.

"We held them to 12 points in the third quarter so it was a great display."

The result sees the Breakers move to three wins and three losses on the year.

They now travel to Brisbane where they will face the Bullets on Sunday at 5:50 (NZT).
