The New Zealand Breakers have retained the services of centre Rob Loe, swelling their contingent of Tall Blacks for next season's NBL.

Loe, who stands 2.11m, is the first player secured by the Breakers in the free agency period, joining Alex Pledger, Mika Vukona, Tom Abercrombie, Kirk Penney, Shea Ili, and Finn Delany in staying at the club.

Loe says the roster already in place played a part in his decision to remain in Auckland.

"Guys like Mika, Alex, Tom and Kirk lead from the front and you soak up all that experience, they have been there and won championships before," Loe said.

"Then bring in the mix the energy that Shea, Finn and myself all bring, it is a fun team to be a part of and it is shaping up as a good year."

Coach Paul Henare says retaining Loe was a key priority before they set about pursuing their import contingent.

They are well advanced in their planning for next season, having parted ways last week with long-serving guard Corey Webster.

Loe played two seasons in Europe after completing a US college career with the Saint Louis Billikens.

The 25-year-old made a sizeable contribution in 2015-16 as the Breakers fell one win short of qualifying for the semi-finals, providing a potent Kiwi rotation at centre with Pledger.

"Rob is what I would call a 'glue guy', he is a high IQ basketball player, offensively and defensively he is sound and knows our systems inside out," Henare said.

Loe plans to marry his partner Kelly in the United States in July.
