A search has continued of the Brighton Beach and Blackhead area near Dunedin following a report of a person entering the water and not coming out on Friday.

Surf lifesavers and helicopters searched on Friday and found nothing, and a coastal search continued on Saturday.

On Saturday afternoon Sergeant Richard Panting reiterated that police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the person either in the water or coming out at Brighton Beach about 10.20am on Friday.

They are of short-medium height, wearing black or dark-coloured clothing.

No one has been reported missing.

The person who alerted police told the Otago Daily Times he saw the person and then they were gone and the only footprints in the sand led to the water.
