The heartless mother of a newborn baby girl found dead outside a Bronx apartment building after a seven-story fall told detectives that her child had died before she pitched the infant out a window, police sources said Tuesday.

The new mom, identified by police sources as Jennifer Berry, 33, said she gave birth in the shower of her W. 183rd St. apartment near Sedgwick Ave. in University Heights Monday afternoon.

When she realized the newborn wasn’t breathing, she threw the baby, as well as the placenta, out the window, she confessed to investigators, sources said.

An autopsy scheduled for Tuesday will determine how the baby died. Charges against Berry were pending until the city Medical Examiner rules on a cause of death, an NYPD spokesman said.

The horrid scene unfolded at 2:37 p.m. Monday when neighbors found the infant’s broken remains in the building’s courtyard.

“The baby looked like it was new, it was on the floor covered in blood,” Sammy Batista, whose window overlooks the courtyard, told the News. “It was terrible. It hurt my heart.”

Cops quickly tracked the baby to Berry, who initially denied having been pregnant.

During questioning, she ultimately confessed that the baby was hers and was taken to the hospital for an examination, cops said.

Her husband, 28-year-old Giovanni Johnson, was grilled by police, but steadfastly claimed that he had no idea his wife was pregnant.

Berry had been pregnant months ago, but told Johnson that she had an abortion, according to sources.
