NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 2/06/2016

Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee is on his way to Singapore for talks with military chiefs and government officials from around the Asia-Pacific.

It's the 15th time the conference, known as the Shangri-La dialogue, has been held.

"It provides a unique opportunity to engage with a range of regional partners to discuss the key security challenges facing the Asia-Pacific region and how best to tackle them," Mr Brownlee said before he left.

"Our economic prosperity and development is underpinned by a stable and secure Asia-Pacific region."

While he's in Singapore Mr Brownlee will hold bilateral talks with counterparts from Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, China, Japan, France and the UK.
