Buckman staying with Highlands until 2018

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 19/05/2016

Injured utility back Richard Buckman has extended his stay at the Highlanders for two further seasons.

A key figure in last year's maiden title win, Buckman hasn't played this season since suffering a shoulder injury in the pre-season loss to French club Racing 92 in Hong Kong three months ago.

He said in a short video statement that he was likely to be back on the field in two months although that will probably be too late to play a part for the defending champions.

Buckman, 28, played four games in three seasons with the Hurricanes before thriving when he shifted south in 2014.

Regarded initially as a winger, the popular Hawke's Bay back known by supporters as "the Barracuda" made a successful transition to the midfield.
