Bunnies stolen from Auckland homes

Bunny burglars have been targeting Auckland rabbit breeders in a spate of early morning break-ins.

Fifteen rabbits have been stolen from breeders' homes in Mt Albert, Blockhouse Bay and Massey over the past three weeks including 10 from one property on four different days.

One woman has set up CCTV cameras and padlocked her hutches after rabbits were stolen from her yard.

"We love our rabbits to bits. We may be breeders but that doesn't mean these rabbits aren't part of our families - my rabbits all have names; they're all loved," she said.

The stolen bunnies were worth between $40 and $50 each.

Police have warned breeders to take precautions and pet shops to be alert in case the thief is stealing them to sell on.
