NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 24/02/2017

Police have arrested 23 people in the last two weeks in the Wairarapa as part of an operation targeting burglaries likely to be linked to methamphetamine use.

Ten burglaries have been resolved, two with assistance from the public, and more will follow, says Detective Sergeant Dean Cadwallader.

Nine charges of burglary and seven of receiving stolen property have been laid and more will follow.

Operation Gardner was started in response to an increase in burglaries in the region in the last six months, particularly of motorcycles and ATVs.

The motorcycles were being disguised and sold on out of the area.

Five stolen trail bikes, a scrub saw, dive gear, fishing gear and camping gear have been recovered and identified from burglaries.

Police also recovered many power tools.
