Burling and Tuke win final Rio build-up

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 26/06/2016

Olympic gold medal favourites Peter Burling and Blair Tuke have notched a 27th consecutive 49er class win in their final regatta before Rio.

The New Zealand crewmates were typically dominant at Kiel Week in Germany, opening an unassailable 26-point lead on the 42 other boats in the fleet heading into Sunday's medal race, where they placed fourth.

The multiple world champions won six of the 14 races and only once finished worst than fifth in a consistent performance in unpredictable conditions which pleased Tuke.

"We had a really challenging week it was nice today that we finally got some good breeze with flat water offshore but predominantly it's been quite light and tricky so just like we're going to see in Rio," he said.

"So we're happy we came here, it's been some great practice. Lots of learnings to take forward, as always."
