Cable Car upgrades delayed by corrosion

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 19/07/2016

The re-opening of the newly refurbished Wellington's Cable Car has been delayed because of more-than-expected corrosion discovered on the two 1970s carriages.

Services will be delayed by an extra two weeks to August 15 while the finishing touches of a $3 million upgrade are finalised.

The upgrade, which began last month, is expected to speed up services times and allow more passengers to make the journey between Clifton, Talavera and Salamanca.

The Cable Car is used by about 1 million people each year.
