A marketing campaign has been launched to lure Australian tourists to Northland.

Tourism Minister Paula Bennett says it's one of New Zealand's less visited regions and she wants to change that.

"The tourism industry is going from strength to strength with 3.5 million people visiting a year and spending $14.5 billion while they're here," she said.

"That's great, but there more to be done."

The campaign - "Every day a different journey in Northland" - has just been launched in Melbourne and will run to mid-March.
