Canadian island ready to take in Americans if Trump wins

Trump haters, Canada has a gun-free, pro-choice, ultra-diverse haven for you.

A proud native of a sparsely populated Canadian island is begging Americans to move to his homeland as bombastic billionaire Donald Trump continues his campaign for the White House.

“Hi Americans! Donald Trump may become the President of your country! If that happens, and you decide to get the hell out of there, might I suggest moving to Cape Breton Island,” website "Cape Breton if Donald Trump Wins" declared.

Hundreds of Americans have sent in inquirers since the cheeky site launched, creator Rob Calabrese, a Canadian radio announcer, told the Globe and Mail.

“I’m in disbelief,” he said referencing the flood of emails. “I wish everyone from Cape Breton could read them because they really make you proud of living here.”

While Cape Breton’s government is not affiliated with the site, the Nova Scotia island’s tourism department has seen a surge in web traffic. More than 12,000 people have viewed the island’s travel site this week — up from just 1,300 people last year.

Cape Breton, an island off the coast of Nova Scotia that is about 400 miles northwest of the U.S.-Canada border, is home to about 150,000 people. However, its population is in decline, making it the perfect spot for Trump-hating expats, the website said.

“We need people.  We need you!” the website declared “This is not a joke!  See for yourself, you belong here with us on Cape Breton Island, where health care is free, you know your neighbors and they look out for you, and nobody has a hand gun.”

Calabrese touted Canada’s diversity. While Trump has promised to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico and vowed to bar Muslims from entering the country, Canada celebrates people from different backgrounds.

“Here, you can hear a number of other languages, like French and Mi'kmaq, even Gaelic!  But everybody also speaks English, just like you!” the website claimed. “Muslim people can roam freely, and the only ‘walls’ are holding up the roofs of our extremely affordable houses.”

If you’re looking to move for personal finances instead of societal standards, Cape Breton has the most “affordable housing market in North America.”

And don’t worry: fleeing a possible President trump doesn’t mean you’ll be sequestered in the frozen tundra.

“Cape Breton isn't frozen all year round!” the website wrote. “Our summers are delightful with highs in the 80 degree range.  Winters here are very similar to the North East USA.”
