The 24-year-old openside flanker suffered a hamstring injury during the 57-22 win over Argentina in Hamilton on June 10, ceding his berth in subsequent Tests to Ardie Savea and Matt Todd.

Cane had hoped to be fit for Saturday's Test against Australia in Auckland but will instead make a rare provincial appearance in Friday's championship division play-off match against Otago in Dunedin.

Another All Black poised for NPC action is dropped winger Waisake Naholo, who played in the last-start thrashing of South Africa in Durban but has made way for Julian Savea in the team to face the Wallabies.

Taranaki are yet to name their team to host Tasman in Sunday's premiership semi-final but his selection seems assured after Taranaki tweeted of the eight-Test flyer's availability.
