A 23-year-old man has been arrested after an aggravated robbery at a petrol station in Templeton, near Christchurch.

Police say an offender entered the Z station on Main South Road about 10.50pm on Wednesday.

He threatened the attendant with a screwdriver, before making off with tobacco and cash.

The man arrested has been charged with aggravated robbery and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, and is due to appear in Christchurch District Court on Friday.
