Police investigating a record New Zealand cocaine seizure have released a CCTV image of a man they want to identify.

Two Mexicans and an American, all male, have been arrested following the discovery of a record $14 million cocaine shipment inside a diamante-encrusted horse head statue.

Police have said further arrests are possible and it's likely a significant organised crime group is at work.

On Sunday, police released CCTV footage off a man leaving a central Auckland hotel near Albert Street about 4pm on Friday.

"At this stage we simply don't know who he is and whether he can assist us, and it would help us to know," Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Parmenter said.

The man is believed to speak with a Spanish-sounding accent.

The seizure came just weeks after officers found a record-breaking $496 million worth of methamphetamine in Northland.
