Two men have been charged over a brawl at a McDonald's restaurant in Napier in which one of them smashed through a plate glass window.

Police were called to the outlet on Thackeray Street on January 9 with the men taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Tuesday, a 19-year-old man appeared in Napier District Court charged with assault and possession of an offensive weapon, police say.

The second man has been charged with assault and will appear next week.

"Police are disappointed that this occurred at a restaurant where several children were present at the time," Hawke's Bay Constable Vicky Holden said.

"This was a distressing incident for all those concerned."
