Charges laid after 'mock arrest'

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 28/10/2016

Police have charged two men, aged 51 and 44, with kidnapping following an alleged incident at Auckland City Police Station last year.

The 51-year-old man also faces an additional charge of kidnapping in relation to an alleged incident at Auckland International Airport.

Both men are expected to appear in the Auckland District Court on November 3.

Police aren't commenting further but media have been speculating the charges were due in a case in which a teenage boy was put in a cell in the police station in a "mock arrest" designed to end his relationship with the 15-year-old girl whom his family disapproved of.

The charges will be vigorously defended, the New Zealand Herald reports.
