A man has been charged following the shooting of two women in the Canterbury town of Rolleston, as well as an armed robbery in Ashburton.

The 23-year-old will face two charges of injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm for the Rolleston incident, and a charge of aggravated robbery in relation to the incident at Ashburton Hotel.

He allegedly fled after he seriously wounded the two women at the Newtons Road home on Wednesday night.

Police believe it was the same man who fired a shot and stole cash from the Ashburton Hotel around 11.20pm, however no one was wounded.

Armed police found him when they searched an address in Rakaia, further southwest of Christchurch, around 7am on Thursday.
