Charges laid over Ecstasy importation

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 26/10/2016

Four packages of drugs destined to be delivered to unoccupied holiday homes in Central Otago have been intercepted by police and a man charged with importing what is believed to be Ecstasy.

A 21-year-old Cromwell man appeared in Queenstown District Court on Thursday on drugs charges after around 500g of MDMA worth more than $200,000 was found.

Tests are underway to determine what the drugs are which police say were imported from Poland and were destined for empty homes in the Clyde area.

Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Inglis said it was the second arrest recently in the district for the importation of drugs and it was hoped it would have an impact on the availability of drugs in the area.
