A man who allegedly shot at police officers with a BB gun in the Auckland suburb of Royal Oak faces a range of firearms offences.

The 41-year-old is now facing three charges of a dangerous act with intent to injure, carrying a firearm with intent, three charges of using a firearm to prevent or resist arrest, intentional damage, unlawfully being in an enclosed yard and two charges of possession of an offensive weapon, police say.

He was expected to appear in Auckland District Court on Wednesday.

Police were called to Royal Oak just after 2.30pm on Tuesday after a person was reported to be acting suspiciously around a property in Manukau Road.

Two officers approached a man, who suddenly pulled from a backpack what was later found to be a gas-powered steel-pellet BB gun and starting firing at them, police said at the time.
