Charles sends message of support to NZ

Prince Charles © Chris Jackson/Getty Images Prince Charles Prince Charles has sent a message of support to New Zealand after the 7.8 quake last Monday.

"Having heard the dreadful news of the devastating damage caused by the recent severe earthquakes, my wife and I just wanted you to know how deeply we feel for all New Zealanders at such a very difficult and alarming time for so many," the message released by Governor-General Dame Patsy Reddy reads.

"Our hearts go out to those who have so tragically lost their loved ones and to all those whose properties have been so badly affected by the appalling disaster."'

Earlier Queen Elizabeth sent a letter of condolence to New Zealand.

Two people died in the quake, Kaikoura has been cut off and buildings in Wellington are damaged.

Supplies are arriving to Kaikoura by military helicopters and ships and one army convoy made it through on an inland route. Tourists and some residents have been evacuated.
