Checkpoint in Hawke's Bay stops 3000 cars

Police found 13 drunk-drivers and impounded five cars from disqualified drivers at a checkpoint in Hawke's Bay.

More than 25 police were involved in the operation that set up the the checkpoint on State Highway 50A, near Pakowhai, for five hours on Friday night.

About 3000 vehicles were stopped and the driver breath-tested.

Thirteen people returned positive results and were stopped from driving while five vehicles were impounded from disqualified drivers.

Inspector Tania Kura, the Hawke's Bay area commander, joined the checkpoint.
