Wallabies coach coach Michael Cheika is preparing to make an early call on the fitness of back rowers David Pocock and Sean McMahon in the lead-up to Saturday's Bledisloe Cup Test against New Zealand in Auckland.

Pocock has missed the past two Tests with a broken hand and fellow No.8 McMahon sat out the last match with an ankle injury, but both were named in the squad for the Eden Park clash.

"We'll have a handle on where they are at today in training and then we'll get stuck into it tomorrow and see who can do what and base our decisions from there," Cheika said.
