Chiefs injury curse strikes again

NZN 10/06/2016

The injury curse that has afflicted the Chiefs' Super Rugby season has struck again with two more players ruled out for the rest of their campaign.

Loose forward Johan Bardoul fractured his ankle in a club match at the weekend while rugby league convert Glen Fisiiahi needs to undergo a knee reconstruction.

Bardoul is expected to be in a cast for six weeks, while Fisiiahi, who was limited to just 25 NRL appearances for the Warriors because of shoulder and knee injuries, will be sidelined for around nine months.

Bay of Plenty outside back Monty Ioane has been drafted into the squad as cover for Fisiiahi while a replacement for Bardoul has yet to be decided.

The Chiefs have endured a horror run of injuries this season with 13 players unavailable due to injury for their last match before the international break.

The absentees included All Blacks Nepo Laulala, Pauliasi Manu, Tawera Kerr-Barlow, and Charlie Ngatai as well as Japan captain Michael Leitch.

One ray of sunshine is the news that inside back Chase Tiatia was a chance to recover from an elbow injury to feature before the season's end.
